Step1: Go over the words and phrases to give advice. Do the exercise3 on page73.
Step2;Show some road signs to the students and ask them what they should do .
For example: (1)Turn right;(2)Dont go faster than 90 kph;(3)Dont turn left;(4)Stop;(5)be careful .
最后給出總結(jié),we use imperatives for different reasons, such as telling people what to do,giving instructions and advice, making recommendations and suggestions, and for making offers.
For example: 1 come in and sit down, please.
2 Dont open the window—its cold.
3 Shut up.
4 Dont speak up.
5 Wear more clothes---its too cold.
6 Drink a little water.
Ask the students to notice that the affirmative form of the imperative is the infinitive with to. The nagative imperative uses dont and the infinitive.
Emphatic imperative
Step2 Tell the students We can make an emphatic imperative with do +imperative. This is common in polite requests, complains and apologies.
1 Do study hard.
2 Do come early tomorrow.
3 Do be careful.
4 Do behave yourself.
Do(nt) be
Although do is not normally used an anxiliary with be,do is used before be in negative and emphatic imperatives.
1 Dont be nervou.
2 Be brave.
3 Be serious.
Always and never come before imperatives
Always remember what I told you.
Never speak to the old like that.
Subject with imperative
Tell the students the imperative does not usually have a subject, but we can use a noun or pronoun to make it clear who we are speaking to.
1 John come here.
2 Everybody help yourselves.
3 Relax all of you.
You before an imperative an suggest emphatic persuation or anger.
1 You be quiet and go to bed.
2 You put on your clothes.
Question tags
After imperatives, the normal question tags are will you?/wont you?/would you?/can you?/could you?/could you? After negative imperatives,“will you” is used.
1 Sit down,will you?
2 Ring me up. Wont you?
3 Be quick. Cant you?
4 Dont cry,will you?
5 Dont move,will you?
Step3 Practise
