“China unwaveringly follows the path of peaceful development in past, present, or future, and consistently pursues a national defense policy that is defensive in nature. The development of Chinas defense and military capability is not targeted at any country, poses no threat to anybody, and will not exceed the need of ensuring its own national security.”
– Remarks by Chinese Ambassador to Canada Lu Shaye at the reception celebrating the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) on July 24, 2017.
“The exchanges between youths of China and ASEAN countries have huge room for growth. Given the total population of close to two billion on both sides, the annual 38 million visits between our peoples are not a big amount. Up to 67 percent of the ASEAN population is aged below 35, and young people account for over 400 million of the Chinese population. There is a lot we can do to enhance the contact between the youths of our countries.”
