一朵花美美地佇立在枝椏上,只要我們用手輕輕一掰,它就斷了。植物真是嬌弱啊!然而事實(shí)上,有很多植物為了防止被動(dòng)物踩壞或啃掉,也練就了各種保護(hù)自己的獨(dú)門絕活哦!今天我們請(qǐng)了五種植物來(lái)給我們講講它們是如何保護(hù)自己的。

Rose: We are roses. We look pretty and smell good. We are not very strong. But we have thorns to scare off animals. Then they can’t eat our beautiful flowers.

Cactus: We are cacti or cactuses. We live in the hot, dry desert. The animals would like to drink the water and juice in our bodies. So we cover our bodies with many spines. They can hurt animals and your hands.
Panda Plant: I’m a panda plant. My leaves are covered with thick hairs. The bugs cannot get through the hairs to eat my leaves.
Poison Ivy: I’m poison ivy. The juice in my leaves is very dangerous. It can cause an itchy rash on your skin. Don’t ever try to touch me!
Tomato: I’m a tomato. I make my leaves taste very bad, so that animals don’t like to eat me.

jump off:跳離,跳下 It is dangerous to jump off the wall. 從墻上跳下來(lái)很危險(xiǎn)。
take off:脫下;起飛 Should I take off my shoes? 我需要把鞋子脫了嗎?
When will the plane take off? 飛機(jī)什么時(shí)候起飛?
turn off:關(guān)掉 Please turn off the lights before you leave. 請(qǐng)?jiān)陔x開前把燈關(guān)了。
put off:推遲 Dad will put off the trip until next week. 爸爸把旅行推遲到下周。
show off:炫耀 Male peacocks like showing off their beautiful feathers.
雄性孔雀喜歡炫耀它們漂亮的羽毛。
wash off:洗掉 We can use soap and water to wash off germs.
我們可以用肥皂和清水來(lái)洗掉細(xì)菌。
scare off:嚇跑 If you make a noise, you’ll scare off the birds.

? Keep your plants healthy: Water them; give them suitable sunshine; fertilize the soil.

? Watch your plants: Check your plants for bugs. If you find them, pick them off and kill them.
守護(hù)植物的安危:檢查是否有蟲害。如果有,把它們抓出來(lái)并干掉。
? Keep your plants “clean”: Spray plants with soapy water or other bug-killers to keep bugs away.
保持清潔衛(wèi)生:噴灑肥皂水或殺蟲水來(lái)清除害蟲。
? Invite “good bugs”: Lady bugs are the most common “good bug”. They don’t eat plants… they eat other bugs.
邀請(qǐng)“好蟲子”:小瓢蟲是最常見的“好蟲子”。它們不吃植物……而是吃其他的蟲子。
