Most of us have three meals a day. We take food for granted (想當(dāng)然). And we dont think about it. 31 experts argue a food crisis (危機(jī)) is coming. This crisis is going to make us 32
the way we think about food.
Food is in great need 33 a growing of world population. By 1960, the population was three billion. It doubled to six billion by 1999. By 2050, this planet will need to 34 at least nine billion people. As a result, the food prices will get higher and higher.
So, what can a 35 , crowed world do? One suggestion is to eat less meat. Meat uses more natural resources (資源) than grains (谷物). It requires more 36 to produce one pound of meat than to produce one pound of grain. It also requires between 5 and 10 times more water than vegetables. So, eating less meat will 37
more land for farming, and it will save water.
To eat less meat, people will need to change their eating habits. That will not be easy. Americans, for example, have 38 loved meat. In general, they eat twice as much meat as people in other countries. At the same time, in developing countries like China and Brazil, sales of meat have doubled in the last 20 years. 39 will double again by 2050. Growing need of meat will continue to put pressure on natural resources.
World population is increasing, resources are becoming fewer, and food prices are rising. Therefore, we need to rethink what we eat every day. For meat lovers, we dont need to give up meat 40 . But we need to eat more grains and less meat.

When you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, they will become weak. When you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that memory works in the same way.
When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong.
If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault (過(guò)錯(cuò)). But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents may be blamed (責(zé)備), and few of us know that it is just his own fault. Have you ever found that some people cant read or write but usually they have better memories? This is because they cannot read or write but they have to remember things, they cannot write them down in a small notebook. They have to remember days, names, songs and stories, so their memory is being exercised the whole time.
So if you want to have a good memory, learn from the people: practice remembering things in a way as other people do.

閱讀下面的短文,完成相關(guān)任務(wù)。
You may think its difficult for them to sleep, but they have no such problems because giraffes dont often stop for a snooze (打盹). As they are so tall— males can grow up to 18 feet, giraffes actually have the shortest sleep requirement of all mammals (哺乳動(dòng)物), with an average (平均) of half an hour a day. When they sleep, they seldom lie down and sleep for minutes at a time, since its difficult for them to get up again and its dangerous in the wild. But the giraffe in the zoo sleeps around 4.6 hours per day, mostly at night. It usually sleeps lying down.
Drinking water may cause problems for the animals because their long necks are too short to reach the ground. To drink they must spread their legs in an uncomfortable position, which makes them easily hunted by other animals like Africas big cats. As a result, they get most of their water from the plants that they eat. They only need to drink water every few days.
