A gain,Chief Chang of Administrative Section became restless when the year-end summary appraisal came near.

Every year,the other sections or departments always became the first,second or be listed as advanced and awarded some money in the year-end appraisal,pushing their section away. Therefore,it is no wonder that Chief Chang had such emotion.Not only the clerks,but also him,the leader,felt disappointed andembarrassed.But, what else could it be?Their section cannot show its performance easily though they had done so much.

Chief Chang determined to do an excellent job in the summary this time. However,he was stumped upon the thought of putting the trivial matters into the official summary material.

Xiaoli,who came here last year as a graduate,was skilled at writing such materials.Chief Chang visited Xiaoli right away to know whether all of the material could be written by him.Xiaoli said“Yes.”,almost without a second thought.

Chief Chang added that the summary was related to the appraisal of our all-year-round work by ourleader. Therefore,it must be written with your toils since it was so important.Chief Chang then asked:”What is your plan about it?”After a thought,Xiaoli said, the first priority to write an outstanding summary is to report with data which is convincing.Although there is no record about some work,we can calculate the details out with the statistical methods.Please allow me to give you an example.We have changed two lights for the offices last week, which is rather common.In this way, we could figure it out that we will change 104 lights all the year round. Chief Chang thought what Xiaoli said really made sense.

Xiaoli handed in the material of summary three days later.It was said:

Under the correct leadership at alllevels in the past year,we all workers in the Administrative Section worked very hard and have finished the tasks the superiors had entrusted to us quite well.

In the last year,we have done the following works:we have made 251 meals,including 15780 breads,2451 kg of rice,more than 100 kinds of species,and over 14580 bowls of dishes.We have finished 138 repairs of indoor lighting system in the office, changed104lights,56switches, 137-meter electronic wire and 23 fuses.A total of 147 repairs in water conveyance pipeline system have made. Apart from that,18 faucets,14 inner wire pipe joints,8 elbows,12 tees,9 unions had changed.We have repaired 86doorsandwindows,changed 23-square-metre glasses,43 handles and 19 hooks.A total of 480 notebooks,950 books of loose-leaf pages, 820ball-pointpens,500signature pens,18 staplers,670 boxes of staple needles,350 boxes of paper clips,460 boxes of pins,15 boxes ink paste,620 portfolios,1200 envelopes,156 boxes of printing paper,etc.had been purchased and handed out.

With 4000-plus characters,the materials included all of the work they had done,be it important or unimportant.Chief Chang was so satisfied that he did not change anything before he handed it out.

In the summary appraisal,all the people in the agency spoke highly of the Administrative Section.The leader of the agency said in the awarding meeting that the Administrative Section did an excellent job in the past year and achieved outstanding results. Finally,the section got the honor of advanced group.

With the certificate in hands,Chief Chang could not hide his happiness, saying:"Well done,man.Oh,you must major in mathematics when you are in university,since you are so professional in numbers.”

Xiaoli shook his head and smiled, saying:“I'm not a math major.Actually,I majored in psychology.”
