現(xiàn)代主義有一句有名的宣言:建筑是居住的機(jī)器。但是我們必須發(fā)問(wèn),在機(jī)器及其所代表的社會(huì)基礎(chǔ)發(fā)生了如此劇變的今天,我們應(yīng)該怎樣理解建筑?如果建筑正在遠(yuǎn)離工業(yè),那么她更應(yīng)該表達(dá)什么內(nèi)容?

與北美其他迅速發(fā)展的近郊城市一樣,加拿大多倫多地區(qū)的密西沙加市也一直在努力尋找著自己的性格和定位。我們認(rèn)為這是一個(gè)機(jī)會(huì),她沒(méi)有必要再像那些典型的城郊一樣,一心夢(mèng)想著變成大都市,而有可能反思自己地域的獨(dú)特性,考慮用一種特殊的方式來(lái)回應(yīng)日益膨脹的城市需求。

我們的設(shè)計(jì)不再屈服于現(xiàn)代主義的簡(jiǎn)化原則,而是表達(dá)出一種更高層次的復(fù)雜性,來(lái)更多元地接近當(dāng)代社會(huì)和生活的多樣化、多層模糊的需求。我們認(rèn)為建筑本身是對(duì)自然和環(huán)境的反應(yīng)和強(qiáng)調(diào),高塔的設(shè)計(jì)一直是對(duì)地理和社會(huì)環(huán)境的一種有力的陳述。

夢(mèng)露大廈位于密西沙加市最重要街道交匯處,她的重要性和標(biāo)志性將使這片區(qū)域成為這個(gè)低密度近郊城市的中心。在我們的設(shè)計(jì)中,連續(xù)的水平陽(yáng)臺(tái)環(huán)繞整棟建筑,傳統(tǒng)高層建筑中用來(lái)強(qiáng)調(diào)高度的垂直線條被取消了,整個(gè)建筑在不同高度進(jìn)行著不同角度的旋轉(zhuǎn),來(lái)對(duì)應(yīng)不同高度的景觀感受。

我們希望夢(mèng)露大廈可以喚醒大城市里的人對(duì)自然的憧憬,感受到陽(yáng)光和風(fēng)對(duì)人們生活的影響。

Modernism has a famous motto: A house is a machine for living in. However, as we progress further away from the machine age, we are left with a question: what message should architecture convey? What is the house of today?

Like other fast developing suburbs in North America, Mississauga is seeking a new identity. This is an opportunity to respond to the needs of an expanding city, to create a residential landmark that strives for more than simple efficiency and that provides residents an emotional connection to their hometown.

In place of the simple, functional logic of modernism, our design expresses the complex and multiple needs of contemporary society. This building is more than just a functional machine: it responds to the significance of being located at the junction of two main streets, elegantly bearing its landmark status and acting as a gateway to the city beyond. It is something beautiful, sculptural and human.

Despite its landmark status, the emphasis is not solely on height. Our design features a continuous balcony that surrounds the whole building, eliminating the vertical barriers traditionally used in high rise architecture. The entire building rotates by different degrees at different levels, corresponding with the surrounding scenery. Our aim is to provide 360 degree views for each residential unit, and to get city dwellers in touch with the natural elements and reawaken their appreciation of nature.

The Absolute Tower has been nicknamed Marilyn Monroe by the locals.

吳鋼:位于安大略湖北岸的密西沙加城是一個(gè)典型的北美城市,沒(méi)有歐洲城市街區(qū)形態(tài)帶來(lái)的緊湊的空間和體驗(yàn),也不是亞洲城市那種基于眾多人口的喧鬧。然而,基于幽美的自然環(huán)境,作為加拿大第6大人口城市(約72萬(wàn)人口),隨處可見(jiàn)這個(gè)城市并存的閑適與高效。馬巖松的雙塔很好地表達(dá)了這種自由優(yōu)雅的氣息,也非常肯定地宣揚(yáng)了這個(gè)城市現(xiàn)代國(guó)際化的建筑文化訴求。至于地標(biāo)性,則是產(chǎn)品需求和一個(gè)在中國(guó)高速經(jīng)濟(jì)發(fā)展培養(yǎng)出的雄心的完美結(jié)合。

青鋒:在約翰遜制蠟公司實(shí)驗(yàn)樓中,賴(lài)特利用圓形與方形平面的交替定義了摩天樓豎向變異的可能性,而夢(mèng)露大廈則將這種可能性拓展到新的領(lǐng)域。雖然建筑師所強(qiáng)調(diào)的是陽(yáng)光、風(fēng)與自然,但“夢(mèng)露大廈”的名字明白無(wú)誤地提示了對(duì)“性感”的聯(lián)想。在后弗洛伊德時(shí)代,這顯然是一種正當(dāng)?shù)?、值得肯定的擴(kuò)展。維特魯維曾經(jīng)鼓勵(lì)這種聯(lián)想,如果將西格拉姆大廈比作多立克柱式,那么夢(mèng)露大廈也許可以被稱(chēng)為愛(ài)奧尼。

WU Gang: The City of Mississauga, located on the north shore of Lake Ontario, is a typical North American city. There is no compact spatial experiences in the blocks in European cities, nor the hustle and bustle caused by the large population in Asian cities. However, with the beautiful natural environment, this city, as the 6th most populous Canadian city, has leisure and efficiency co-existing everywhere. Absolute Towers, designed by MA Yansong, not only well expresses this kind of freedom and elegance, but also articulates the architectural and cultural demands for modernization and internationalization of this city. Being a landmark, this tower is a perfect combination of the product demand and the ambition fostered in China's rapid economic development.

QING Feng: In the design of Johnson Wax Laboratory Tower, Wright redefined the formation of high rise buildings by the alternation of square and circular floor plans. The Absolute Tower (Monroe Tower as its nick name) extends the limit of such maneuver. Although the architect stressed the sunshine, wind and nature, the project's nick name-Monroe Tower-clearly indicates its "sexy" characteristics. In a post-Freud age, such association is surely justified. Vitruvius had encouraged such connections. If we consider the Seagram Tower as a Doric order, then the Monroe Tower could probably be called Ionic.
