On August 3rd, the media conference of 2015 China Eco-friendly Fabrics Design Competition was held in Beijing. Co-organized by China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC), China Textile Information Center (CTIC), National Textile Product Development Center, and Jiangsu Wujiang China Eastern Silk Market Committee, the first China Eco-friendly Fabrics Design Competition will take place in Shengze town, Suzhou city.
“Currently, being ecological, environmental and green has turned into a global trend for textile products consumption.” said Ms. Qiao Yanjin, the director of CTIC, at the beginning of the conference, “So it is our industrial responsibility to reduce energy consumption and lesson pollution as much as possible during the producing process, so as to ensure the environmental sustainability of Chinas textile industry. And that is the reason why we hold the Eco-friendly Fabrics Design Competition.”
During the media conference, Mr. Fan Jianlong, the Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Jiangsu Wujiang China Eastern Silk Market, introduced the long history of Shengze town as an important area for Chinas silk production. Dating back to the Tang Dynasty, Shengze town was famous for “Wu damask silk”, which in the old days was treated as a tribute to the emperor and the empress. In the period of Ming and Qing Dynasty, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Huzhou, and Shengze were ranked as Chinas four well-known cities of silk. Shengze town was successively named as “Chinas famous town for silk” and“Chinas famous town for textile”,
Afterwards, the Product Department Director of National Textile Product Development Center Mr. Chen Baojian introduced the 2015 China Eco-friendly Fabrics Design Competition in details. According to Mr. Chen Baojian, the logo of 2015 China Eco-friendly Fabrics Design Competition is made up of four leaves, which means eco-friendly fabrics is mainly based on natural fibers, non-pollution dyeing auxiliaries, and specific environmental technology.
With the purpose of focusing on eco-environment protection, and altering the traditional consumption habit, the participants are required to use eco-friendly raw materials and minimize as much negative impacts on human or environment as possible during the whole production process. 2015 China Eco-friendly Fabrics Design Competition will end up with 15 awards – five “Best Eco-friendly Material” awards, five “Best Eco-friendly Technology” awards, and five “Best Eco-friendly Market” awards. In addition to the awards, the competitions winners will have an opportunity to take participate in overseas activity of textile design. The competition results will be released on the official website of Fabrics China and the Worth Global Style Network.
Competition aim
The objective of this competition is to help Chinas textile industry to adjust industrial structure as well as product structure, leading the whole industry to produce eco-friendly fabrics. In the meanwhile, the competition will promote the transform of Shengze textile enterprises economic growth mode, establish a realistic environmental sustainability system for textile industry on the basis of resource conservation and environmental protection, and eventually achieve the strategic goal of sustainable development.
Since it is the first ever eco-friendly fabrics design competition in China, this competition is regarded as a milestone in the history of Chinas textile industry, leading the research and development on Chinas fabrics producing to an eco-friendly way. It is also an unprecedented opportunity to reshape the rules and policies that guide the textile industry, and to increase the entrepreneurs and designers awareness of environmental sustainability.
