50th Anniversary of Tibet Autonomous Region

September 8, Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region: Celebration assembly for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Tibet Autonomous Region is held at Potala Square in Lhasa. Chinese President Xi Jinping wrote an inscription for the event: “Enhancing ethnic unity, building a beautiful Tibet.” Yu Zhengsheng, member of Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese Peoples Political Consultative Conference, also attended the assembly. Yu stressed that the CPC Central Committee would continue safeguarding the reunification of the motherland, considering strengthening ethnic unity as a priority, and governing Tibet by rule of law. He pledged measures to enrich the people and rejuvenate Tibet—long-term construction projects in Tibet. Potala Palace is a holy structure to Tibetan Buddhists. Europeans Confident in China

September 8, Beijing: The media conference on European Business in China – Position Paper 2015/2016. Nearly one hundred reporters from both Chinese and foreign media outlets attended the conference. The Position Paper pointed out that although the Chinese economy has downshifted to the new normal, it is the result of the governments initiative to regulate and transform the economy. European companies are ready to welcome the new normal state. According to a 2015 business confidence survey by the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, European companies in China believe there is still room for growth in the Chinese economy. More than half of European companies are still optimistic about future development of the Chinese economy. IC

Womens Volleyball Scores Again

September 6, Nagoya, Japan: Chinese womens volleyball team beats Japan with a match score of 3 to 1, securing the 2015 FIVB Volleyball Womens World Cup. The triumph marked the Chinese teams first championship in 11 years since a gold medal at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004. It also qualified them for the Rio Olympic Games. As coach of the Chinese womens volleyball team, Lang Ping led the Chinese team to a silver medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. In 2001 she served as the coach of the Italian team and led them to the championship of the Womens European Volleyball League. In the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, she led the American team to a silver medal. In 2009, Lang Ping returned home to coach the Guangdong Hengda volleyball team. On April 25, 2013, Lang Ping once again became coach of the Chinese national womens volleyball team. IC

“Robot War”

September 1, Shenyang, Liaoning Province: The 14th China International Equipment Manufacturing Expo and the First China Shenyang International Robot Exhibition at the Shenyang International Exhibition Center. More than 70 renowned domestic and foreign robot corporations participated as exhibitors, and a variety of robots gave live demonstrations. Robots from China and other countries engaged in a lighthearted “robot war.” Remote control car races, performances, contests and other activities were also held at the exhibition. Chinese and Danish Naval Gathering

September 17, Denmark: The Chinese Navys Fleet 152 makes a friendly visit to Denmark to conduct a joint exercise with the Danish Navy in the Baltic Sea area. The meet marked the Chinese Navys first trip into the hinterlands of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to participate in a joint exercise with the Danish Navy. Colorful Crops

September 13, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province: Sprouts of eight different crops grown geometrically at Eight-trigram Cropland in Hangzhou. As the seasons turn, the eight crops turn different colors. The Eight-trigram Cropland was created during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). Zhao Gou, Emperor Gaozong of Song, fled to Hangzhou during civil unrest. There, he cultivated open fields at the foot of Yuhuang Mountain into the shape of eight trigrams and continued farming with the locals through thick and thin. This field has been preserved and became a heritage park. It is a particularly stunning place to visit in Hangzhou during autumn. IC

“Big Moon”

September 12, Nanjing, Jiangsu Province: As Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, a “big moon” appears at the North Pole Pavilion Square in Nanjing. It was created to set the mood for Mid-Autumn Festival. The “big moon” hydrogen balloon, set in retail business areas, was displayed until the end of September. The 15th day of the eighth month on the Chinese lunar calendar fell on September 27 this year. Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional Chinese festival similar in tone to Thanksgiving in the United States. Chinese people usually gather with families to eat moon cakes and other delicacies and gaze at the full moon together. IC
