China Eastern Airways is one of the world's biggest airliners. Their new headquarters will be placed in the proximity of the Hongqiao airport in Shanghai. The design work is ongoing and it is designed by Niels Torp architects. The engineering is designed by ARUP of Shanghai in a Joint Venture cooperating with Niels Torp Architects. The construction drawings will be produced by ECADI of Shanghai.
- 能容納12,800員工的辦公場所;
- 擁有約500間客房的酒店;
- 用于監(jiān)測及準(zhǔn)備航班的監(jiān)控中心;
- 操作中心——機(jī)組人員做航班飛行準(zhǔn)備的終端;

- Hotel with approx. 500 rooms;
- Operation centre for monitoring and preparation of the flights;
- Operation centre as a terminal for the crew, where they are prepared for the flights;
- Training centre.

The site has a square shape, defined by the terminal pier and surrounding office buildings. We transform this place into an oasis suited for people by establishing the square site as parkland, defined by clusters of trees as the outer boundary. Within this square shaped boundary we place the China Eastern Airline village. A cluster of buildings with an amorphous and undulating outline, defined by a“screen” that holds the wing ends of the buildings together.
An interesting shaped park arises as a result of the space between this square outer boundary and the undulating outline of the CEA village.
The CEA village consists of horse shoe shaped buildings organized around the central atrium, with"streets" and bridges between them. Just like an ordinary village with a central plaza, roads and lanes.
The atrium is split in two by the road. The main communication routes circles around - and connects the two parts - of this atrium. The wings of the buildings spread out in the form of a star. This gives short and efficient communication routes.
Most villages have a monumental building placed in the midst of the plaza. The CEA village will have one tower in each of the two atriums that complements each other and holds the village together visually. The towers contain meeting centres. The north tower has a corporate management club on the top floors.
To bring light, air and sightlines into the village the mass of the buildings slopes into the centre. Grand entrances are accessed from the central plaza.
