Under the cover of darkness,Claude slips through the back door of an unknown house and enters the kitchen. As itsunsuspecting(未料到的;不知情的)owners sleep inside, theintruder(闖入者)pads(躡手躡腳地走)over the floor with barely a sound. He’s done this before. He knows what he is looking for and he knows how to get it.But it isn’t jewellery or money that he is after— it’s food.
This is a new television show,Horizon:The Secret Life of the Cat(BBC2)whichuncovers(揭露)the“secret lives”ofdomestic cats(家貓).50 cats were fitted with GPS trackers thatpinpointed(為……準(zhǔn)確定位)their position to within a few centimeters as theyprowled(潛行)on their nightly rounds. The most exciting thing was the tiny collar-cameras they wear, offering viewers a cats-eye view of the world.
The cats were thefocus(焦點(diǎn))of the programme:Ginger, always ran into his neighbor’s garden at 4 a.m.to fight theresident(定居的)cat;Molly, travelled two hours from home to hunt from a birds’nest in a wood;and there was Claude, whocrept into(爬進(jìn))a stranger’s house each night to steal food.
Cats,as their owners already guessed, like to sneak through next-door’scat-flap(開在門上供貓進(jìn)出的貓洞)andraid(劫掠)the food bowl;they warn and then run away when they meet one another. As for cats, hunting mice means, mostly, too much trouble for them.
