PRESIDENT Xi Jinping's trip to Africa was as refreshing as it was reinforcing. Consideringthe significant effort and financial commitmentsof China's foreign policy toward Africa under HuJintao's administration, there are concerns as towhether or not Beijing's generous policies willchange with the new government. While there wasless mention of sizeable multi-billion dollar dealsduring Xi's time in Africa, this probably reflects theChina-Africa relationship as it matures. His threestate visits to Tanzania, South Africa and the Re-public of the Congo were more about geopoliticsthan new commercial initiatives.
