Announcer: Tonight, as of right now 300,000 people have searched out a tiny young girl causing a big stir, a 1)prodigy doing something 2)reminiscent of another little kid called Mozart. ABCs Nick Schifferin is with the newest child wonder.

Nick: Like so many child prodigies, her playing is perfect, her sound is 3)serene. But before seven year-old Alma Deutchers feet reached the floor, shes already written this; an opera composed for an entire string 4)orchestra, praised by the best opera house in Great Britain.

Alma: I had the theme when I was very young, and it…it…it was really mysterious. Its (singing) ah dah dahdah.

Nick: She isnt just reading music, shes writing as she goes, all 5)improvisation off the top of her head. How gifted is she? Well, almost already a year ahead of another prodigy you might recognize. Mozart could play and name notes at three. Alma could do that at two. Mozart was first writing at five. Alma was four. Now, over the years weve seen some extraordinary children. Umi Garret was eight, Brianna Kahane, seven, and pint-size Jonathan Okseniuk, conducting at just four, all great performers, but Almas a great composer, and some say that she writes with the same quality as Mozart when he was the same age.

Brian Zeger (Opera Program Dir., Juilliard): I cant think of anybody quite this young. This is really remarkable. She just lives and breathes music.

Alma: Im writing a 6)cello 7)sonata now. It isnt finished yet.

Nick: More than 300,000 people have now discovered her online. This young composers melodies creating so much happiness, and shes only seven.

Jonathan Okseniuk

Jonathan Okseniuk, the child music prodigy, lives with his parents in Arizona. His father works in aviation operations and his mother is a home maker. Neither parent is very musical. He would wave his arms to music, and was picking up pencils and sticks to beat to the time before he could walk. Music is inside him 24 hours a day.

His grandparents play an vital part in his life and are very supportive of his passion. His grandfather is an amateur violist, who grew up in a musical family. He remembers vividly, the moment he played Eine Kleine Nachtmusik for Jonathan. He placed a baton in his hand, and the boy immediately began conducting.
