According to experts of the State Grid, in 2011 China’s investment in grid construction will reach 300 billion yuan, and the resulting demand for nonferrous metals and steel products will still be kept at a high level, the planned purchase of raw aluminum is 1,600,000 tonnes,that of copper is 1,120,000-1,250,000 tonnes,that of steel product is 5,000,000 tonnes.

After the “China Nonferrous Metal Industrial Chain Development Forum and Copper Industrial Chain Forum” which was held on April 17, Li Juan, Assistant Chief Engineer of the State Power Economic Research Institute and Director of Planning Research Center, told reporter of www.caing.com, this standard is basically on the same level with the height of investment construction in the “Eleventh Five Year” period, which shows that power grid construction has entered a stage of steady development.

She indicated that according to the “Twelfth Five Year” plan, during the “Twelfth Five Year” period, China’s power grid investment scale throughout the five years will reach 1580 billion yuan, the annual average is 300 billion yuan, wherein AC and DC UHV power grid is expected to account for one third, those below 110 KV is expected to account for one third, those between 220 and 750 KV will also account for one third.

At the conference on that day, Li Juan revealed that in 2011 it is expected that investment in grid construction will reach 300 billion yuan,the distance of the planned 110 KV above AC line is expected to reach 54000 km, the transforming capacity is expected to reach 2.5 trillion KVA.

She also disclosed that during the “Twelfth Five Year” period, per capita power consumption will increase steadily, by 2015, per capita power consumption will rise form the current 3000 kwh to 4370 kwh. This indicates vast potential for power growth, and the resulting demand for metals such as copper still has space for upward growth.
