Baise to Build Ecological Aluminum Industry Base

The government of Baise announced the construction of an ecological aluminum industry base over the next few years,pledging to turn the city into a major aluminum industry base in China and the rest of Asia.

Currently,Baise is executing its plan to create an aluminum industry with a value of RMB 100 billion,and is striving to create a pillar industry with an output value of RMB 100 billion by the end of the 11th Five-Year Plan period.Baise plans to produce 5 million tons of alumina with an output value of approximately RMB 20 billion and 2 million tons of electrolytic aluminum and aluminum alloy with an output value of approximately RMB 40 billion.Also,Baise will build a project that consists of a throughput of 800,000 tons of aluminumrelated varieties and an annual output value of approximately RMB 10 billion.Further to this,the city is planning to develop a batch of precise deep-processing projects covering aluminum plates,belts,foils,hubs and profiles,with a total production capacity of 1500,000 tons and an output value of approximately RMB 40 billion.Meanwhile,Baise will develop relevant supporting industries involving carbon (100 tons),caustic soda (600,000 tons),electricity(30 billion kwh) and coal (10 million tons) with an output value of approximately RMB 10 billion.

In the first half of 2010,Baise's key aluminum projects (a 900,000-ton alumina extension pro-ject by Pingguo Aluminum,a 1.6 million ton alumina project by Huayin Aluminum,and a 1.2 million ton alumina project by Guangxi Xinfa (Phase I)) were been put into operation and achieved their respective designed capacity.This has helped to grow Baise's alumina capacity from 900,000 tons in 2009 to 4.6 million tons now.

Baise is very rich in aluminum resources.Prospecting results show that Baise is one of most important bauxite bases in China with prospective bauxite reserves of more than 1 billion tons.
