我們先看這樣一個句子：

I prefer music that has great lyrics. 我喜歡歌詞很棒的音樂。

本句中出現(xiàn)了一個動詞prefer。這是一個很常用的動詞，它的意思是“寧可，更喜歡；覺得還是……更可取”。其主要用法如下：

1. 后跟名詞。例如：

I like geography，but I prefer math. 我喜歡地理，但更喜歡數(shù)學。

Which subject do you prefer，English or math? 英語和數(shù)學這兩門課，你更喜歡哪一門?

Do you prefer apples or bananas? 你喜歡吃蘋果還是喜歡吃香蕉?

2. 后跟動詞不定式。例如：

I prefer to walk there. 我寧愿步行去那里。

Its very hot today，and I prefer to stay at home. 今天天氣很熱，我寧愿呆在家里不出去。

She prefers to live among the working people. 她更喜歡生活在勞動人民中間。

3. 后跟V-ing形式。例如：

4. 后跟復合賓語。例如：

She preferred him to spend all day outside. 她寧愿讓他在外邊過一整天。

The director preferred her to act the old lady. 導演認為她還是演那個老太太好。

5. 后跟賓語從句。例如：

He preferred that nothing should be said about the accident. 他倒希望對這次事故什么也不要提起。

Would you prefer that I come on Monday instead of on Tuesday? 你喜歡我星期一來而不想讓我星期二來嗎?

在初中英語中，出現(xiàn)過兩個由prefer構成的結構：

1. prefer... to... 寧愿……不愿……

(1) 后跟名詞。例如：

I prefer classical music to popular music. 我喜歡古典音樂，不喜歡流行音樂。

Mike prefers cheese to ice cream. 邁克喜歡奶酪，而不喜歡冰淇淋。

Most people prefer trains to buses. 大多數(shù)人喜歡坐火車而不喜歡坐公共汽車。

(2) 跟V-ing形式。例如：

I prefer working to sitting idle. 我寧愿干活，而不愿閑坐著。

Many people prefer watching TV at home to seeing films at the cinema at present. 現(xiàn)在很多人寧愿在家看電視而不愿去電影院看電影。

2. prefer to do... rather than do... 寧可做……也不愿做；喜歡做……而不愿做……

I would prefer to spend the weekend at home rather than drive all the way to your mothers. 我覺得與其開車跑那么遠到你母親那里去度周末倒不如在家里過更好些。

She prefers to go with us rather than stay behind. 她寧愿和我們一起去，而不愿留下來。
